Through the eyes of a Maine Coon breeder: love, devotion, and tenderness @maine_coon_de_l_ecrin_de_ninon
My name is Delphine and my life has always been surrounded by cats, whether they are strays or purebreds.
The Écrin de Ninon cattery was born from a visceral and sincere passion for these little hearts on legs who bring us love, tenderness and comfort.
My life revolves around them: I can spend days at home monitoring a birth, watching my Babycoons grow up or taking care of my adults.
I dedicate a huge amount of time, attention and resources to their well-being — premium food, veterinary care, equipment…
It's a total passion, sometimes difficult, but it lives deep within me.

Why did you choose this particular breed?
It was love at first sight with this breed of gentle giants, both majestic, intelligent, and deeply affectionate. The Maine Coon is a cat-dog, both independent and very close to its humans. It perfectly matches my XXL love of cats! They are fascinating, expressive, elegant, and present felines, embodying beauty and grace. Sharing them through my posts, photos, and videos is a true pleasure.
What is the temperament of the Maine Coon?
The Maine Coon is a unique cat:
- Calm, gentle, affectionate, modest, discreet and very attached to his family.
- He follows his humans everywhere, like a shadow, even if he's not always fond of knees.
- He has his own language: cooing, melodious meows, and an expressive gaze that seems to want to speak.
- He is a pacifist, playful, self-assured, and capable of fetching the ball like a dog.
- It develops in stages: it never grows and gains weight at the same time.
- It is a loyal and present companion, perfect for families, children, other cats and even dogs.

What does a typical day in the cattery look like?
During the birthing process and the first few weeks, the kittens stay with me 24 hours a day, in my room.
Once more awake, they discover the nursery: a safe, comfortable and stimulating space.
They are only allowed to leave after receiving their vaccinations.
Then, they can freely explore the house, under supervision, at their own pace.
No enclosure, shed or isolated room: the Maine Coons live with us, in total integration into our daily lives.

How does adoption work in your country?
We are a family cattery (only 1 litter per year), and we protect the privacy of our home and our cats.
No visit to the cattery before adoption.
Our cats are not in a shop window or “displayed” like in a museum. They live freely, integrated into our home, socialized with humans, children, noises and daily routines.
These conditions make them well-balanced, clean, affectionate kittens who are comfortable in their own skin.

Do you have a particularly memorable experience?
Yes… The most painful thing was the loss of Mr. Nem, on August 15, 2023.
He was my beloved cat, my love, my perfection. His sudden departure left me devastated.
But in this ordeal, an unexpected gift arrived: a final litter was born.
Thanks to her, I had the chance to meet Mr. Maô, his spitting image, who gave me back some light.
A true sign of destiny.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to adopt a Maine Coon?
Be vigilant!
Many catteries display beautiful photos, but hide a less rosy reality: kittens confined, poorly socialized, questionable hygiene…
Ask to see a video of the nursery, check it out:
- The cleanliness of the beds, litter boxes, and food bowls,
- The quality of the food,
- The condition of the cat trees,
- The presence of clear water,
- The general condition of the premises (walls, windows, etc.),
- And even the introduction of the breeder herself.
Adopting a Maine Coon means adopting a sensitive being. It deserves to have started its life in a healthy, loving and balanced environment.
